Barry reportedly had been considering making such a move since early this
decade.
The 46-year-old Barry retired as a player in 2009 and joined Turner Sports the
following year. He worked for NBA TV in addition to broadcasts on TNT.
Barry was part of two NBA title teams with the Spurs (2005 and 2007) during
his 14-year playing career. He averaged 9.3 points, 3.2 assists, 3.0 rebounds
and made 1,395 3-point baskets in 912 games (449 starts) with the Los Angeles
Clippers, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Seattle SuperSonics, Spurs and Houston
Rockets.
Barry replaces Monty Williams, who departed in June to become an assistant
coach with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Barry is the son of basketball Hall of Fame member Rick Barry.
