PyeongChang silver-medallist Marte Olsbu Roieseland produced the best performance of her career on the way to victory in the 7.5km sprint in Nove Mesto.

The Norwegian biathlete held off the charge of Laura Dahlmeier who was making her first appearance of the season after recovering from injury, to record her first IBU World Cup success.

Roieseland shot clear on her way to a time of 17:59.9, with Dahlmeier's one miss proving costly as she came home 4.5 seconds back.

Slovakia's Paulina Fialkova finished third, just ahead of Anais Chevalier of France with the top two in the overall World Cup well off the pace.

Italian leader Dorothea Wierer could manage only ninth, missing two targets along the way, while her nearest rival Kaisa Makarainen had a nightmare day with five misses on the range as she finished 58th, more than two minutes off the pace.
