Kaisa Makarainen faltered to a sixth-place finish in the final biathlon World Cup race of the season but that proved just enough to take a third overall title of her career.

The Finn incurred three penalties in the 12.5km mass start event in Tyumen but by crossing the line in sixth she ended the campaign on 822 points, just three clear of Slovakia's Anastasia Kuzmina, who could only finish 11th on the day to dramatically miss out.

Darya Domracheva of Belarus came from 13.8 seconds back after the final shooting stage to win in Russia in a time of 35:27.4 minutes and finished third in the overall standings, 18 points behind Makarainen.

Domracheva held off Paulina Fialkova by 1.8 seconds, as the Slovakian had to settle for second, with Anais Chevalier of France shooting clean to take the bronze.

Makarainen also won the crystal globe in the 2010-11 and 2013-14 seasons and scored enough points in Tyumen to additionally clinch the mass start World Cup title.
