Eckhoff keeps winning run going in Antholz-Anterselva sprint

Tiril Eckhoff became the only women to have won a 7.5km sprint in the biathlon World Cup in each of the last four seasons with victory in Antholz-Anterselva.

The Norwegian stopped the clock in 21:05.3, which was enough to take the victory by 12 seconds from closest rival Laura Dahlmeier, of Germany.

Czech biathlete Veronika Vitkova came home third, a further 10.6s back as Kaisa Makarainen kept the overall World Cup leader’s yellow bib despite only finishing in 26th place.

Mixed relay Olympic champion Eckhoff, who won the 7.5km sprint World Championship title in 2016, shot clear – along with the rest of the top three.

So it was on the skis that the Norwegian established her advantage over the field, with seven-time world champion Dahlmeier not having enough to overhaul her rival.

Anastasiya Kuzmina maintained her lead in the sprint World Cup standings, despite finishing 18th, the Russian holding a 46-point lead over Vitkova.

In the overall World Cup Makarainen’s lead over Kuzmina was cut to just 11 points with two more races to come in Italy this weekend.
