There was plenty for a fervent Oberhof crowd to shout about as Simon Schempp led a German one-two to win the men’s biathlon World Cup event.

Schempp came home in 38:30.9 minutes, with Fourcade pushed down to third as German Erik Lesser edged out the five-time World Cup champion to the runners-up spot following a photo finish.

Despite being pipped to the win Fourcade leads the standings on 610 points, with his nearest challenger Anton Shipulin on 379 after coming home 14th in Oberhof.
