Brad Hall's history-making four-man team became Great Britain's first ever European bobsleigh champions with their latest memorable performance in Altenberg.
It is the fifth time the British quartet of Hall, Arran Gulliver, Taylor Lawrence and Greg Cackett have finished on the World Cup podium this season and their second success in as many weeks at a venue hosts Germany had not previously lost in for 17 years.
Their time of 1:49.32 was enough to edge out the team led by Francesco Friedrich, a six-time European champion, with the British and German quartets now level on points at the top of the standings.
Swiss sliders Michael Vogt, Alain Knuser, Sandro Michel and Bieri Cyril came home in third, with a time of 1:49.54.
In the two-woman event, Olympic gold medallist Laura Nolte was crowned European champion with Neele Schuten.
The Germans finished 0.02 seconds behind double Olympic champion Kailie Humphries of the USA in the World Cup event as the race for the Crystal Globe hots up.
Just ten points separate Germany's Kim Kalicki in first from Humphries in third with two races to go.
Switzerland's Melanie Hasler and Nadja Pasternack claimed their first European Championship medal, finishing 0.57 seconds behind Nolte.
The pair are hitting form at the right time, with a home World Championship in St. Moritz getting underway on Monday.
Bronze went to overall World Cup leader Kalicki, who was defending her 2022 title with new teammate Anabel Galander.
