Fabulous Friedrich starts World Cup with a bang

Olympic champion Francesco Friedrich made a flying start to the 2-man bobsleigh World Cup season with a new track record in Sigulda, Latvia.

The German, alongside new brakeman Alexander Schüller, finished in 49.86 seconds to take victory, while the pair also set a new start record (4.82 seconds) at the track.
Latvia's Oskars Kibermanis and brakeman Matiss Miknis finished second in front of a home crowd, 0.42s behind Friedrich and Schüller.
Austria's Benjamin Maier and brakeman Markus Sammer were third, while Czech Republic's Dominik Dvorak and brakeman Jakub Nosek finished fourth – their best-ever World Cup result.
Freidrich leads the overall standings with 225 points, 15 clear of Kibermanis.
