Canada's Justin Kripps and Alexander Kopacz smashed a 14-year old track record to win their first two-man bobsleigh World Cup of the season in Altenberg.
Kripps, who was celebrating his 31st birthday, edged two German crews into silver and bronze on their home track.
Despite leading the World Cup standings, Kripps's consistency this season has not been rewarded with a win, after three silvers and two fourth places in previous rounds.
Francesco Friedrich and Martin Grothkopp came second while Nico Walther and Christian Poser took the last podium spot ahead of Latvia's Oskars Kibermanis and Matiss Miknis.
Great Britain's Brad Hall and Toby Olubi were just over a second off the pace in 15th while Lamin Deen and Nicholas Gleeson failed to qualify for the second run.
