Amir Khan survived a knockdown to claim a points victory over Samuel Vargas in Birmingham.
Khan was put on the canvas at the end of the second round when he appeared to be in complete control.
The Colombian Vargas landed a right hook as Khan left himself open after putting his opponent down earlier in the round.
Khan thereafter boxed more cagily, and could not deliver a knockout blow against a tough opponent who went the distance despite suffering a broken nose.
However Khan was an overwhelming victor on the judges scorecards, winning 119-108, 119-109, 118-110.
Kell Brook, touted as Khan’s next opponent watched the fight from ringside. Although Khan showed heart, there was little on show to concern Brook.
