Muhammad Ali has been taken to hospital with a respiratory issue, his spokesman Bob Gunnell has said.
Ali, 74, has been admitted as a precaution, Gunnell said.
"He is being treated by his team of doctors and is in fair condition," Gunnell said.
"A brief hospital stay is expected. At this time, the Muhammad Ali family respectfully requests privacy."
The statement did not add any further details.
A three-time world heavyweight champion, Ali, nicknamed 'The Greatest', was diagnosed with Parkinson's about three years after he retired from boxing in 1981 with a 56-5 record.
