Bradley Ray topped qualifying in Round 2 of the British Superbikes Championship on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, with 2015 champion Josh Brookes finishing 20th.
The 20-year-old, who shocked the field by winning two races at Donington, cruised through the first two qualifying heats, before holding off six-time champion Shakey Byrne (BeWiser Ducati) and James Ellison (TAG Hire Yamaha) to finish at the front of the field.
He went under the 45-second barrier, with a time of 44.997sec and will now try to make it three wins from three in Race 1 tomorrow at 13.30.
Meanwhile, Brookes' effort was arguably the shock of the day, with the Australian struggling with his bike for the first session.
After switching to McAms Yamaha, despite ending up second in the championship last season, he will be hoping for a better showing, on a short track where qualifying is crucial.
