The RAF Regular and Reserves Kawasaki rider is 61 points behind Championship leader Leon Haslam and will be delighted to have put the pressure back on his title rival.
A red flag came out in Q2 after Jason O'Halloran's bike leaked oil on to the track, causing crashes for Dixon and Luke Mossey.
However, the 22-year-old recovered and saw off competition from Glenn Irwin and Tarran Mackenzie with a time of 1:24.699.
Haslam will begin Race 1, which starts at 4pm and could confirm him as this year's champion if results go his way, in eighth.
