British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne said he was “happy” to be making progress in his recovery just two weeks after a horrific crash during testing in Norfolk on May 17.
The 41-year-old Be Wiser Ducati rider broke all of his ribs, his neck and four vertebrae in the crash at Snetterton, but tweeted on Thursday:
"I can't tell you how happy I am right now, just walked on a frame to my bathroom and had a full on lower body shower then walked back to bed, I feel right this second like I've just won another 10 Championships although I also feel bloody knackered!!"
The update comes just days after Byrne told his Twitter followers that: “paralysis was a major issue and concern.”
After being operated on, Byrne said the surgery had gone well but that he had “a long road ahead” in terms of rehabilitation and recovery.
Prior to his crash, six-time champion Byrne had been third in the overall standings after winning at Brands Hatch in April.
Byrne also expressed sadness at the death of road racer Dan Kneen at the Isle of Man TT on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old was killed at the Churchtown section of the course during qualifying.
