Laura Muir's 2018 will be rather different than most but that doesn't mean the middle-distance runner is taking anything lightly after starting her year in positive fashion.

The 24-year-old has decided to bypass the Commonwealth Games this year as they clash with her final veterinary studies exams, a move that was in the pipeline for some years.
Her running doesn't seem to be suffering from the increased work pressures however, shown by her anchoring the British team to victory in the 4x1km relay at this weekend's Great Edinburgh XCountry in front a partisan crowd.
Clocking a leg of 3:01, Muir showed a strong turn of pace to take the lead early and guide the team home and follow up the 8:37.21 3000m indoor time she registered last weekend in a strong start to the year.
With March's World Indoor Championships the main focus of her year – outside of work in the laboratory – Muir knows there is no time to rest on her laurels in whatever she throws herself into.
"It's just a matter of getting it all done now this year and hopefully winning a medal at the world indoors, and graduating as a vet and then hopefully medalling at the Europeans as well," she told BBC Sport.
"It is very tough, but you've just got to have good time management. When your priorities are running and veterinary, that's all you do.
"It was great fun; I always love competing here. It is fantastic to get another win in the relay; the team did a great job of getting me into a good position so I just had to bring it home for them which I'm happy I was able to do.
"I knew when Adam came around the bend I was going to have to work hard to push on but I'm really pleased to get the win. It is another stepping stone as we build it up this year so I'm glad to run a good leg for the team." Sportsbeat 2018
