Denmark were three points ahead by the end of the third end, and scored a three in the fifth end to propel them out of reach.
Oona Kauste's rink were then able to pull a two back but conceded in the eighth end, allowing Denmark to secure a 9-3 victory.
"I'm very happy and very relieved. This is more than any of us dared to hope for when we started," said Dupont.
"We thought China and Germany would be clear favourites, followed by Czech Republic, us and Italy - it could have gone either way for all five of us.
"We're good when we have our backs to the wall and we have to win, that is something that characterises this team - we've never lost a game that we have to win. That's one of our biggest strengths."
Only two nations will go forward to February's Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang as Denmark joined Italy and China in the play-offs.
Elsewhere, China defeated Germany 7-3 in the final session of the women's round robin action, while Italy just edged out Latvia 7-6 with a point in the extra end.
China and Italy will now go head-to-head in the first play-off, with the winner securing their Olympic berth before the loser faces Denmark for the remaining place in PyeongChang.
