Curling news - Muirhead's Scotland quartet down Sweden in Omaha

Scotland’s quartet, which features PyeongChang veterans Victoria Chalmers and Lauren Gray as well as Jennifer Dodds, consigned Anna Hasselborg's four to a second consecutive defeat as they ran out 6-2 winners.

The result leaves them top of Group B alongside Japan, with Muirhead confident the result could be of a watershed moment.

"The girls were excellent - we played well out there," she said.

"Anna and her team of course have had a great couple of seasons and they are the team on form.

"To get a solid win for against them is good for us, it builds our momentum a bit."

Elsewhere in the women’s competition, the United States top Group A with two wins from two, with Canada and South Korea level in second and third.

Olympic champion John Shuster and team beat North American rivals Canada 5-3 in the men’s competition as they top Group A alongside China.

Shuster’s rink had suffered defeat in their first match of the competition on Wednesday, but chalked up statement wins over Scotland and Canada to the delight of the home crowd.

In Group B, Norway and Sweden sit three points ahead of Japan and Switzerland having each won two of their first three fixtures in the round-robin stage.

The Switzerland pair of Jenny Perret and Martin Rios are the only side in the world cup to have won three from three in the pools as they hit the front of Group A in the mixed doubles competition thanks to a late comeback against Sweden.

The Olympic silver medallists were 7-5 down heading into the final end in Omaha, but four points capped a dramatic turnaround from the duo.

They sit two points clear of South Korea in Group A, while Norway top Group B heading into Friday’s action after beating China 7-5.
