Annemiek van Vleuten won the 2019 Strade Bianche with a magnificent ride for Mitchelton-Scott.

Van Vleuten, a two-time world time trial champion, soloed to victory on the picturesque streets of Siena just six months after breaking her knee during the UCI Road World Championships elite women's road race in late September.

"This is one of the best victories in my career. I thought after breaking my knee at the world championship that I wouldn't have enough time to get into the right form for winning Strade Bianche," the Mitchelton Scott rider said.

"But I'm glad it was enough time. I managed to attack exactly where I had planned to."

Van Vleuten took six weeks off to help her recovery from a nasty knee injury and returned to racing saw her claim fourth place at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad last weekend.
