Giro d’Italia leader Priomz Roglic was involved in a crash in the early stages of Stage 6.
Roglic, taking a 35-second GC lead over Simon Yates into Thursday’s stage, become involved in an incident with several riders on the road from Cassino to San Giovanni Rotondo.
There was no indication the crash was a severe one, with reports indicating that after the peloton was split by the incident and a 40-second group opened up, it reformed shortly afterwards with Roglic in place.
Roglic is the favourite to claim the maglia rosa with Tum Dumoulin withdrawing from the race on Wednesday due to a painful injury.
Dumoulin's Sunweb team-mate Robert Power was also forced to abandon the race following the crash which brought down Roglic.
