Katie Archibald third in omnium after opening two rounds

World champion Katie Archibald sat third in the women's omnium after the first two rounds at the Track World Cup in Manchester.

The 23-year-old Scot finished fourth in the opening scratch race after being heavily marked in the rainbow stripes, and was second in the tempo race, winning five sprints.

That put her on 72 points, eight behind American Jennifer Valente and two back on Denmark's Amalie Dideriksen.

The omnium concludes later on Friday with the elimination race and the points race.

Britain topped the time sheets in qualifying for the men's team pursuit, but only just as they edged out Denmark by 0.075 seconds.

Britain's quartet of Ed Clancy, Steven Burke, Oliver Wood and Kian Emadi set a time of three minutes 58.548 seconds, although Burke looked to be struggling on his turns.

The British national champions, all-amateur squad Team KGF, finished fifth with a time of four minutes 0.448 seconds to advance to the next round.

In qualifying for the men's team sprint, Jack Carlin, Phil Hindes and Joseph Truman set the second fastest time with a 43.341, bettered only by the Netherlands' Harrie Lavreysen, Nils van 't Hoenderdaal and Jeffrey Hoogland's time of 42.967.

Katy Marchant and Sophie Capewell qualified eighth in the women's team sprint, setting a season's-best time of 33.778 seconds. Germany's Kristina Vogel and Miriam Welte topped the time sheets at 32.604.
