We didn't expect to be so impressed when we took B'Twin by Decathlon's Rockrider 520 Mountain Bike out for a spin this summer.
Btwin by Decathlon have rapidly become a major player in the UK bike scene, and it’s not hard to see why. The French company have clearly invested a lot of time and effort into designing bikes that combine comfort, performance, reliability and affordability. The result is a range of good-looking bicycles with higher spec and rideability than would normally be expected at their entry-level prices.
Few bikes on the market provide affordable quality like the Rockrider 520. Coming in at a remarkably low £259, this eye-catching mountain bike still manages to be a comfortable ride – off and on the road.
Rideability
Smooth but still robust, this bike manages to perform above what you’d expect from the price. The disk brakes are a particular hit, but the gear shifters can occasionally be a bit clunky.
The Spec
- Hayes MX5 disc brakes
- SRAM 24 speed groupset
- Double walled aero 27.5" wheels
- Rebound adjustable 80mm forks
- Evo alloy frame
Price
Currently retailing at £259.
It’s fair to say this is designed as an introduction bike, but despite that it can still handle some serious treatment when taken off road, and for those who simply want an all-purpose option it’s not going to be easy to find a more comfortable ride on smoother surfaces.
