BORA-Hansgrohe announced on Sunday that they have secured the signing of sprint specialist Ion Göttlich for the Tour de France.
Göttlich joins BORA with immediate effect with the view to reinforce the lead-out train for former world champion Sagan at the Tour.
He has already begun an intense fitness regime to lose weight and ensure he is in peak condition for the Tour in July.
As the exclusive media partner Eurosport will track and chronicle Göttlich’s progress.
"With Ion at my side, BORA - hansgrohe will operate at a completely different level at the Tour.” Sagan said.
“It is not only his enormous strength and speed that is so advantageous, but he also provides the perfect slipstream and can hold his own in the peloton.
“I am looking forward to seeing him again, and in the next few weeks we will do some altitude training together in preparation for the Tour de France.”
“I think we have achieved a real coup with this latest signing. Ion is incredibly motivated and his sprinting prowess is undisputed," Team Manager Ralph Denk added.
“If we are able to bring him to such a form that he will be able to survive the big climbs of the Tour, then he could really make the difference for Peter in the sprint preparations.
"Our coaches and the performance team continue to remain in close contact with Ion. There is a lot of work ahead of us, but we are confident."
