The Welshman, who won the Tour de France over the summer, also insists the 26-year-old has a bright future ahead of him after his incredible triumph in Madrid on Sunday.
Speaking on The Bradley Wiggins Show, Thomas said: "[His win was] unbelievable. I am pretty jealous really that he’s done it at 26 and I had to wait until I was 32!
"He’s got a nice career ahead of him now. It’s incredible what’s he’s done – and his brother Adam who was fourth on the Tour in 2016 which was maybe just as impressive. So that pair have got an amazing future and will be right in the mix for the Worlds too."
Thomas also spoke about what next year's plans would be for him and Sky team-mate Chris Froome, who came third in the Tour when seeking a fifth title, with the Giro d'Italia also a possibility.
"I haven’t really thought about [what I'll do] but I’d like to go back and try and defend [the Tour de France title] – that would be a nice little target, it would get me out of bed in the morning," he added.
At the same time the Giro does feel like unfinished business.
"If it was similar to this year, and I won, I’d be happy! I'm only joking... we’re both going to want to win so we’ll both go in there in the best shape we can and we’ll just be honest with each other, like we were this time, and hopefully the same thing can happen!"
There was also a surprise for Thomas - an Arsenal fan - after his sensational victory, when he got a call from Arsene Wenger.
"Yeah, that was strange," he said. "We were sat in the airport just about to fly to London to go to Sky and I got handed a phone and it just said ‘Arsene’ on it and I was a bit like ‘what is this all about?’
"I thought it was [Brad] doing his accent and stuff! But it was actually him in the end. At least I think it was, unless you are going to tell me now that it was you!
"It was surreal."
