Team Sky have said that Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas and Giro d’Italia champion Chris Froome will not compete in the World Championships at the end of September.
Both men are currently competing at the Tour of Britain after their stellar Grand Tour campaigns in 2018.
And the season-ending UCI event in Innsbruck is not on the agenda after a draining campaign.
Team Sky directeur sportif Scott Lancaster confirmed the news.
"Froome and G will finish their seasons here, it's good to finish, on not necessarily a form wise high, but on a morale and psychological boost for next year on a high," Lancaster told Cyclingweekly.
I think G originally thought about it [racing at Worlds], I would have wanted him there in the team time trial but obviously he is burnt out after a massive season and the stress they put themselves under with training and diet etc.
