The 2017 and 2018 Lakeside winner took the opening three sets before Baker roared back to take the next three.
Durrant regained his composure, however, to clinch the deciding set 3-1, hitting double 12 to seal the match.
Number one seed Lorraine Winstanley booked her place in the semi-finals of the BDO World Championship after overcoming Trina Gulliver 2-0 at Lakeside.
Winstanley was not in particularly fluent form but produced a 73 average and 124 checkout on her way to beating the ten-time world champion.

Gulliver had a doubles success rate of just 16 per cent as she rarely threatened to close the gap.
Winstanley told Eurosport: "I was really nervous. Towards the finishing line, I was just trying to stay focused, but it's really hard when you're up there. I just tried to hit those doubles.
"She's a legend in the game, but I've got my eyes on the prize."
Winstanley reached the semi-finals in 2012, and she now bids to go one further.
"I'm causing my husband some stress," she added. "But it's nice for some role reversal as I've at in the crowd and watched him play. I don't need to look at him, as I know what I need to do."

Winstanley will face Anastasia Dobromyslova for a place in the final after she defeated the number five seed Aileen de Graaf 2-0.
Dobromyslova is into the final four without losing a set as she stepped up her quest for a fourth world title in style, ending the contest with an 11-darter.
Meanwhile, Kyle McKinstry became the first Northern Irishman to reach the BDO World Championship quarter-finals in 34 years after edging out David Cameron 4-3 in a classic contest later on Thursday night.
The Canadian Cameron had fought back from two sets down to lead before missing three match darts in a tense finale.
McKinstry's 102.48 average in the seventh set was worthy of winning a gruelling battle as he reeled off four straight legs to progress to the quarter finals.
