The 20-year-old made his World Championships debut in 2017 and also represented England at the Commonwealth Games for the first time earlier this year - in 2014, he contemplated quitting the sport altogether.
Sheffield native Haslam started out as an Olympic hopeful on the platform but with his faith shaken, he found a new lease of life on the springboard and hasn’t looked back since.
"All of my junior career, I always competed as a platform specialist," Haslam told Team England.
"In 2012, I did Olympic trials and that was all on platforms but I never particularly enjoyed it.
"I spoke to my coach and I told him I didn’t know if I could carry on doing this and when you're still quite young and you're so scared of it, you can't see past the fear.
"The best thing for me was to come down and actually enjoy diving.
"It’s helped with my performances because actually, when I am enjoying it, I'm diving a lot better."
In April, Haslam travelled to Australia's Gold Coast as part of an England squad also containing his elder brother Jack, 22, and narrowly missed out on a medal as he finished fourth in the men’s 1m individual springboard, teammate Jack Laugher taking gold.
He was also eighth in the 3m springboard event and fifth in the men's synchronised 3m springboard, competing in tandem with his sibling.
Earlier this month, Haslam and partner Grace Reid won 3m synchro bronze at the FINA Diving World Cup in Wuhan, China, a result he was delighted with, even if there was apparently no great secret behind the success.
"It was mine and Grace's first time doing the routine. We'd never even practised it before going to China," said Haslam. "You've just got to jump and help each other do the best dive you can do as a pair, and it ended up alright!"
