Despite a leg injury which has kept him out of action since mid-February, American Kent Farrington has retained the World No.1 armband in the latest Longines Rankings of CSI5* international Show Jumpers. But the Chicago native’s rivals are hot on his heels, notably the Netherlands’ Harrie Smolders in second place. McLain Ward also holds steady as the third-ranked rider on the planet.

Indeed, in the latest rankings published by the International Federation for Equestrian Sports (FEI), the top seven places remain unchanged from last month, with France’s Kevin Staut in fourth, Sweden’s Peder Fredricson and Henrik von Eckermann in fifth and sixth, and Italy’s Lorenzo de Luca in seventh. Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat moves up two slots, from 10th to eighth, while his compatriot Martin Fuchs is tied for ninth with France’s Simon Delestre, who make up the rest of the top ten.
While Smolders, who had a great 2017 including victories on the Longines Global Champions Tour and at the Longines FEI Nations Cup Final, remains behind Farrington after the American fractured his leg in Florida, the Dutchman has narrowed the gap. Previously 245 points behind, Smolders is now only 115 back. Next month, the World No.2 could potentially dethrone Farrington, who posted last month on social media from his hotel bed, saying that he intends to come back stronger than ever.
Farrington’s compatriot Ward, winner of the 2017 Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Final in Omaha with HH Azur, has retained his third place after several placings in Grand Prix and numerous intermediate classes in Wellington and Ocala, Florida since the start of the year. And broadly speaking, the top 50 has not changed much over the past month aside from the notable ascents of Israel’s Daniel Bluman, who has risen no less than nine spots to 38th, and Brazil’s Yuri Mansur, who makes a big jump from number 51 to 39.

After recent victories at the Gothenburg Horse Show, Denmark’s Cathrine Dufour and Atterupgaards Cassidy jump up from fifth place into third, with Spencer Wilton the top British rider in 13th place.
