Just a few days after the amazing CHIO Aachen, Germany will host another international event: the 13th leg of the Longines Global Champions Tour in Berlin. Belgian Pieter Devos, former number one in the circuit, will not fail to take advantage of the chance created by the absence of the Longines Global Champions Tour leader, Ben Maher.
Indeed, the British will be competing at the CSIO5* of Hickstead. Apart from Devos, the colors of Belgium will be defended by Niels Bruynseels, Nicola and Olivier Philippaerts. Regarding German riders, Daniel Deusser, Ludger Beerbaum, Christian Ahlmann, Hans-Dieter Dreher, Marco Kutscher and Christian Kukuk, will try to shine in front of their home crowd and of course earn precious point to ensure themselves a qualification for the final. But many riders will be in the same state of mine like last year winner Italy’s Alberto Zorzi and his compatriot Emanuele Gaudiano.
French athletes will be a real threat as three out of the four team gold medalists during the last Olympic Games, will be there: Kevin Staut, Roger Yves Bost, Julien Epaillard . The honor of Great Britain will be defended by two-time Longines Global Champions Tour winner Scott Brash, Robert Smith, William Whitaker and Harry Charles, and Ireland by Shane Breen and Michael Duffy. The Dutch team will be equally strong, with Gerco Schroder, Harrie Smolders, Frank Schutter, Jur Vrieling and Maikel von der Vleuten. The Swiss will be headed by the current world vice-champion, Martin Fuchs, next to Pius Schwizer.
The Longines Global Champions Tour added the popular city of Berlin, Germany, in 2017 and it has fast become a popular event on the circuit. With fans filling the stadium each day, the show had a phenomenal atmosphere and is sure to deliver again this year. The German capital is also the largest city in the country, steeped in history with famous monuments including the Berlin Wall and the Brandenburg Gate. Berlin’s vibrant cultural scene makes it one of the most visited cities in the world.
