37-year-old New Zealander Jonelle Price has won the 2018 Badminton Horse Trials, with British riders finishing 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in the CCI4* Eventing competition. With her victory, Price stopped Oliver Townend from claiming the Grand Slam prize that goes to a rider with consecutive wins at Burghley, Kentucky and Badminton.

“I am sure it will sink in later,” Price said after riding clear in Show Jumping to seal the victory with her 15-year-old black mare Classic Moet. “It is surreal. It is like joining an elite club.”
“I knew it was going to take a clear round to win today,” she added, “and I was trying not to bother to look at who was having fences down and who wasn’t. I just tried to stick to my plan.”
“It was so tight, and I thought anyone in the top 10 could have won today, so it needed a clear round.”
Townend finished second with Cooley SRS, while his British teammates Rosalind Canter (Allstar B) and Gemma Tattersall (Arctic Sould) were third and fourth. Townend was also fifth with Ballaghmor Class. The new World No.1 in Eventing had been issued an official warning on Saturday about over-use of the whip on both horses.
