Juuso Nordgren has rolled out of first place on the Cyprus Rally, but still holds fourth position in the FIA European Rally Championship’s overall order despite his mistake.
Wevers Sport pilot Nordgren made it only one corner into stage nine before going wide and rolling his ŠKODA Fabia R5. Despite extensive body damage, Nordgren was able to continue with only around a minute lost, albeit enough to drop out of the podium places.

“I am really sorry for both team and everyone. I don’t know what to say. I don’t have any explanation. I crashed the car, now our rally is done. I don’t want to explain anything,” Nordgren told ERC Radio.

“We’ll try to continue. We had a long wait before the stage, then at the first corner, very slippery, I went wide there. It was a really amateur mistake with the cold tyres into the first corner.”

Nordgren’s roll promotes local ace Simos Galatariotis to first place, with SEAJETS-backed Bruno Magalhães only 3.3s behind in second place. Nordgren is now 43.1s behind new leader Galatariotis and 22.6s behind defending Cyprus Rally winner Nasser Al-Attiyah in third. Stage 10 is next up from 12h24 local time.
