Alexey Lukyanuk will begin the defence of his FIA European Rally Championship title on the Azores Rallye this week feeling “calm and comfortable”.
Lukyanuk, who has joined the Saintéloc Junior Team to drive one of its Citroën C3 R5s, is bidding to become only the fourth driver in ERC history to successfully defend his title.

Speaking ahead of this week’s gravel showcase, the ace Russian said: “I would not say I am 100 per cent relaxed but I am calm, I feel comfortable and confident that we can have a really good event, have fun and get a good result.”

Lukyanuk bagged his maiden Azores win in 2018 following an exemplary performance. He’s a big fan of the Ponta Delgada-based event. “The atmosphere in the Azores is amazing and I am really anticipating my latest visit. There will be changes to the special stages, they will be different but we will be happy to explore some new roads on the island.”
