Zelindo Melegari has sought advice from double European champion Giandomenico Basso as he looks to put the FIA ERC2 crown beyond Tibor Érdi Jr’s reach on Rally di Roma Capitale this week.
Italian Melegari is 43 points ahead of his Hungarian rival after six rounds. And while the title battle is far from over, the MOVISPORT driver is hoping that home advantage will help him to edge closer to the big prize.

“In the framework of the capital with the start from the Bocca della Verità, the Mouth of Truth, and the parade in the centre of Rome, I am sure all will be very exciting and we have to consider we could close the championship,” said Melegari. “I hope to realise this dream since I have never been lucky in my driving career.”

Melegari’s co-driver Maurizio Barone is one of only a few competitors among the ERC event contingent with previous Rally di Roma Capitale experience. But as Melegari is quick to point out, it’s not just Barone’s advice he’ll be taking on board.

“Maurizio has been important for the entire championship but having already done this race will be important especially,” said Melegari, who actually prefers competing on gravel compared to asphalt. “Apart from studying videos of the special stages I have taken some advice from Giandomenico Basso.”
