FIA ERC Under 27 Championship frontrunner Filip Mareš was praised after an impressive showing on Rallye du Var last month.
Mareš and co-driver Jan Hloušek were invited to take part on the French event by Peugeot Sport following their capture of the Peugeot Total Rally Cup in their native Czech Republic this season.
Despite their lack of experience of the challenging mountain roads, the Czech federation (ACCR)-backed duo excelled by finishing fifth in class out of 14, sixth in the R2 section out of 34 in P27 overall. It could have been even better had it not been for a time-consuming puncture on stage eight.
Afterwards, Peugeot 208 Rally Cup Co-ordinator Jean-Marc Vinatier said: “Filip was in the middle of expert Tarmac drivers and I can mark his performance on the Rallye du Var at a high level.”
