FIA ERC Junior Under 27 talent Mattia Vita missed out on Rally Liepāja’s Qualifying Stage, having sustained damage to his car after hitting a tree.
During Friday morning’s opening free practice session, Vita ran wide at a fast left hander less than one kilometre from the starting line. As one of the first five cars to enter the stage, Vita faced loose gravel lying on top of the road surface, making conditions more slippery than usual.

“I did a quite stupid mistake, missing a braking point during Free Practice 1. I totally lost control of the car in a fast corner and went into the forest,” explained Vita.

Subsequent damage sustained to his Pirelli-shod machine meant his car was towed straight back to service for repairs, with Vita lauding the work of hisTRT Junior Rally Team mechanics.

“It looks certain that we've broken the driveshaft. We have to check if the engine is fine. But for sure, we don't have a [working] driveshaft, so the guys are changing it.

“So a very big thank you to them, they were very quick to bring the car out from the forest and back to the service park.”
