ERC Juniors Gryazin and Ingram survive high-speed spins

Both Sports Racing Technology driver Gryazin and Toksport WRT’s Ingram suffered fifth gear spins at speed on the LDZ Cargo (Laidi) stage, yet despite their respective mistakes, the young stars in R5 cars were still the fastest pairing through the test.

“We had a spin at high speed and stopped. I thought we were going to crash but somehow I stopped it in the middle, sideways – I needed to reverse,” Gryazin told ERC Radio reporter Julian Porter at stage end.

“It was a very stupid mistake but I’m good. [It was] in a fast corner, I think it was a pace note mistake.”

Ingram’s high-speed spin put his ŠKODA Fabia R5 into a bank and was lucky to sustain no damage from his off, with only his rear wheels being caked in dirt suggesting he'd made a mistake.

“We spun in the middle and went up a bank. I used the bank to push us back sideways but we stalled,” he said at stage end.

“I’m pleased we haven’t lost time to the guys behind. It just snapped sideways flat in fifth gear and I couldn’t quite hold on to it.”

Despite their errors, Gryazin and Ingram are first and second both overall and in ERC Junior U28, with 3.5s separating the pair.

ŠKODA AUTO Deutschland’s Fabian Kreim – the last of three drivers locked in an epic title tussle for ERC Junior U28 honours – moved from fifth to third overall, passing fellow Junior star Fredrik Åhlin.
