He might have lost the 2017 FIA European Rally Championship to Kajetan Kajetanowicz in a final-round decider but Bruno Magalhães has come out on top of a vote by ERC media.
Representing several European countries including Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal and the UK, the panel chose Magalhães following his against-all-odds bid to win the coveted ERC title.
Explaining his vote, João Freitas Faria ofAutoSportmagazine in Portugal, said: “I decided on Bruno because of his amazing performance this season which he started as a one-off entry in the Azores and arrived in Latvia with the possibility of getting the title. For that he had to overcome a lot of difficulties and progress a lot on his approach to unknown events.”
Kajetanowicz, who bagged a record-breaking third consecutive ERC title, Alexey Lukyanuk, who recovered from serious injury to win stages, and ERC Junior Under 28 champion Marijan Griebel were also recognised for their efforts in 2017.
