ERC risk takers will be rewarded in Liepāja, says Brynildsen
Eyvind Brynildsen believes FIA European Rally Championship drivers who take the biggest risks on Rally Liepāja’s fast, flowing roads will be rewarded this weekend.
Despite missing out on a full campaign this year, Brynildsen believes he can overcome a lack of seat time at the wheel of his Ford Fiesta R5 with extra bravery, especially with Rally Liepāja’s roads being so similar to those in his native Norway.
“It will suit us well. It’s the ones who are willing to push and take the biggest risks who will be fastest,” he said.
“It’s a difficult rally because it’s so fast when you haven’t been in a car since June. It takes time to get back but at the same time I like these fast, flowing roads.”
Brynildsen is also facing an additional challenge of switching from Norwegian to English pace notes, with experienced Austrian navigator Ilka Minor in the co-driver’s seat this weekend.
“We do the pace notes in English but we use a lot of English words in my Norwegian pace notes, like cut and keep in. We just change the right and left and the numbers, so it’s not a big problem.”
