Albert von Thurn und Taxis has described landing his first FIA European Rally Championship points of 2018 as a “really big step forward”.
The ex-GT racer and relative rallying newcomer faced the prospect of running at the head of the field through Sunday’s stages on the Cyprus Rally in his Baumschlager Rallye & Racing ŠKODA Fabia R5.
But despite the low-grip, challenging conditions, von Thurn und Taxis drove without error to reach the finish in Larnaca in a strong eighth overall alongside co-driver Bjorn Degandt.
“It was a really big step forward,” von Thurn und Taxis said. “It was a rally of ups and downs. I was not so happy with my speed [on Saturday], it was difficult with changes of rhythm and some of them really fast with different grip situations and I was really struggling at points. But I am happy where we are at the end of the weekend.”
