Marijan Griebel has driven his Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 for the first time during testing in the Azores today as he builds up to his return to FIA European Rally Championship action.
The double ERC Junior champion joined Baumschlager Rallye & Racing team-mate Norbert Herczig at a private test, which took place in dry and sunny conditions, despite rain and fog affecting test roads being used by their ERC rivals on other parts of São Miguel island.
“First of all, I’m really happy to be back in the European championship,” said Griebel, who won the German championship in 2018. “The car is brand new – I just did my first metres with it. I will need some time to get more optimistic with the car, but the weekend is long, the rally is quite difficult and you don’t have to start at 100 per cent.”
