Catie Munnings has tipped Emma Falcón to win the 2018 ERC Ladies’ Trophy when the FIA European Rally Championship concludes on Rally Liepāja this week.
Although Falcón and Munnings are tied on points and will compete in virtually identical PEUGEOT 208 R2s, Munnings believes her chances of winning the ERC Ladies’ Trophy title for a second time are slim.

“We focus on the ERC Junior Under 27 Championship, which doesn’t run on all the rounds [like the ERC Ladies’ Trophy does],” said Munnings, who won the ERC Ladies’ Trophy in 2016 at the end of her first season of rallying. “But as we’ve won the last few rounds of the ERC Ladies’ Trophy we are now equal with Emma going into the last round.

“Realistically, with the way the scoring works, we still only have a slim chance to take the title. ERC Ladies’ Trophy points are based on our position in the overall two-wheel-drive section so you can get big scores on non-ERC Junior U27 rounds where there are fewer 2WD entries. Emma went to Greece and got a big score so now when you take dropped scores into account, the only way we can get the title is to finish fourth or higher and event that would be if Emma doesn’t finish.”

Despite accepting Falcón is better placed to win the title, Briton Munnings, a PEUGEOT UK ambassador, isn’t giving up. “We’ve got to give it a go and see what we can do.”

Munnings, who forms part of the Saintéloc Junior Team line-up, made her gravel debut on Rally Liepāja in 2016. Falcón has never tackled the Latvian event before, while her GC Motorsport-run 208 R2 is all-new to her following her switch from the Citroën DS3 R3T she has rallied for the last three seasons.
