This is how Jari Huttunen’s Hyundai New Generation i20 R5 will look when the ERC Junior graduate takes to the stages of the World Rally Championship in 2018.
Huttunen, runner-up to Opel team-mate Chris Ingram in the inaugural FIA ERC Junior Under 27 Championship in 2017, will contest selected rounds of the WRC2 category as part of the Hyundai Motorsport Driver development Program.
So far the ace Finn, 23, has been confirmed for the world rounds in Sweden and Mexico alongside regular co-driver and compatriot Antti Linnaketo. He’s intent on making the most of his dream opportunity.
“I will make it my aim to deliver against the team’s expectations in each of the rallies in which we will compete,” said Huttunen. “It will be a learning curve and I intend to make the most of the opportunity. Sweden and Mexico are two diverse events, so we will have to be on top of our game from the start. We have a great car and a lot of optimism, which we will try to translate into positive results in these first two events.”
Huttunen’s progression to the world championship is firmly in line with the ERC’s aim to provide talented drivers with a clear and structured route from national to international level. Stéphane Lefebvre is another notable ERC Junior graduate competing in the WRC.
