Roland Stengg’s mechanics will do “everything they can” to get the Austrian to the start of the Azores Rallye on Thursday after he crashed heavily in testing earlier today.
ERC3 Junior talent Stengg escaped with a sore ankle while co-driver Alessandra Baumann was largely unhurt in the high-speed accident. However, their Opel ADAM R2 was damaged beyond immediate repair. Although the Stengg Motorsport team transported a spare ADAM R2 to the Azores, it’s not clear if it can be readied in time for the FIA European Rally Championship season-opener.

“I went to a deep cut, went on two wheels and there was a mud wall,” Stengg explained. “I hit that and started to roll I don’t know how many times. It was just a blur when I think about. The car went 200 metres down the road, there were car parts everywhere.”

Of his chances of starting the rally, Stengg said: “We have a spare car with us but we have to check if we can start. The mechanics are doing everything they can, we do our best.”
