It’s the last 24 Heures Motos for Dominique Meliand. Known in the trade as ‘The Boss’, the iconic manager of 15-time world title winners Suzuki Endurance Racing Team has announced he will be passing the mantle next summer.
After 39 years in charge of Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, Dominique Meliand is handing over control of the squad he created in 1980. He has had an unrivalled Endurance racing career. Under his dynamic leadership, Suzuki Endurance Racing Team have won 15 Endurance World Championship titles and 10 victories at the 24 Heures Motos – the first dating to 1982. We’ll have to wait until 3pm on Sunday to see if he adds an 11th win to his track record.
At his leaving ceremony in Le Mans, the ACO admitted Dominique Meliand to the 24 Heures Motos Hall of Fame. ‘I’m feeling emotional,’ the ‘Boss’ confessed. ‘This is a magnificent reward, but I owe it to a lot of people. My thanks go to the ACO for having created the Hall of Fame; to my entire team, and to my family. I’d also like to thank the 24 Heures Motos spectators, who have cheered us on for more than 40 years. A big thank you!’
