Following their Ducati debut at Sepang last December, Team ERC Endurance are ready to fly the Italian brand’s colours high at the next FIM EWC race: the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans at the end of August.
Team ERC Endurance sprang a surprise as a last-minute entry into the 8 Hours of Sepang with official backing from Ducati Corse. Despite minimal preparation, the German team’s Panigale V4R took 10th place in Malaysia this past December.
The forced hiatus as a result of the global health crisis has enabled Team ERC Endurance and Ducati Corse to really fine-tune the bike in preparation for the next big FIM Endurance World Championship race: the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans on 29 and 30 August.
But before the challenging race, the team will have to validate their choices and set-up options over several test sessions. Team ERC Endurance have not only switched manufacturers, going from BMW to Ducati, but their tyre supplier too. The Panigale V4R ERC Endurance uses Michelin tyres.
Julien da Costa, Louis Rossi and Ondřej Ježek are slated to ride the factory Panigale at the 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans at the end of August. Da Costa, the 2013 FIM EWC winner with Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, has notched up three successive wins at the 24 Heures Motos, from 2010 to 2012. Louis Rossi is also very familiar with the Bugatti circuit, having won the Moto3 category there in the 2012 French Grand Prix. Czech rider Ondřej Ježek is a Superbike championship racer. And Ducati might well put forward some of its other riders as backup for the rest of the season.
