F.C.C. TSR Honda France leading halfway through at Oschersleben

F.C.C. TSR Honda France has just taken over the lead at the 8 Hours of Oschersleben ahead of YART Yamaha and BMW NRT48, which made an impressive start and is lapping ahead of Team SRC Kawasaki, GMT94 Yamaha and Honda Endurance Racing four hours into the race.

After making a cautious start behind a hell-for-leather pack in front, GMT94 Yamaha had moved into the lead, but has now been issued a stop-and-go penalty for non-compliant refuelling (lights on).

Superstocks setting frenzied paceAs expected, the Superstock final is proving suspenseful. Junior Team Le Mans Sud Suzuki is currently in 7th place ahead of Moto Ain, Tati Team Beaujolais Racing (still topping the provisional standings at this stage), No Limits Motor Team and Atomic 68. Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences has lost some ground after running out of fuel.

Duels, overtakes, crashes, tears and fireThe first few hours of the race at Oscherseben were action-packed to say the least. After grabbing the holeshot for Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, Gregg Black got into a duel with BMW-mounted team NRT48’s Kenny Foray. The battles raging on the track were interrupted on two occasions by safety cars – first after a crash involving Team April Moto Motors (forced to withdraw) and AM Moto Racing Compétition, and then when a fire started at the side of the track after Team GP Moto crashed.

Some of the top teams also crashed. The first spectacular incident happened a little over an hour into the race when Suzuki Endurance Racing Team’s Vincent Philippe crashed. The factory-backed Suzuki was among the leading pack at that point and has now returned to the track in 31st place, 8 laps behind the new leader. Then Sylvain Barrier took a spill during his stint on the Mercury Racing BMW, which had been lapping in 7th place.

The race finish is scheduled for 9pm CEST.
