If it were already 3pm at Le Mans, the FIM Endurance World Championship rankings would be turned upside-down. Here’s a speculative look at the classification 4 hours from the race finish.
Team SRC Kawasaki France, who were 5th in the provisional standings when they got to Le Mans, would make big-time gains. Having scored 22 bonus points for their 4th place on the starting grid plus their race leader status 8 and 16 hours in, the factory Kawasaki team would shoot to the top of the FIM EWC standings with 102 points overall.
Suzuki Endurance Racing Team would do well out of it too. In 3rd place at 10am (with 28 points), and having scored 17 bonus points for their grid and midway-point positions, Dominique Meliand’s team would climb to 2nd place in the FIM Endurance World Championship standings with a total of 86 points.
Wepol Racing, who got to Le Mans in 2nd place in the standings, would slide down a notch to 3rd with 80 points, ahead of Bolliger Team Switzerland with 68 points.
The two privateers would still place ahead of Honda Endurance Racing despite the latter’s leap up to 5th place in the provisional standings with 60 points.
The biggest losers would be YART Yamaha, ERC-BMW Motorrad Endurance and F.C.C. TSR Honda France. YART, who were in 3rd place after the Bol d’Or, are winding up the 24 Heures Motos with 52 points after being forced to withdraw. ERC-BMW Motorrad Endurance were counting on the 24 Heures Motos to make up for lost time, but have already thrown in the towel.
The game is not over yet for F.C.C. TSR Honda France, who were lapping beyond 30th place in the standings at 11am at Le Mans, but they would slide from 1st to 6th place in the overall standings, 50 points behind the new leader.
