The Anthony Delhalle EWC Spirit Trophy has been awarded to No Limits Motor Team. The squad put up a determined fight for the entire 24 hours of the race to make it to the third step of the Superstock podium at the Bol d’Or.
After qualifying in 20th place on the starting grid, No Limits Motor Team achieved their first Superstock podium finish at the Bol d’Or – but it was a long haul.
The Italian team’s race week got off to a bad start. One of their riders, Christian Gamarino, crashed during testing and had to withdraw.
As a result, No Limits Motor Team had to reconfigure their line-up in a hurry. They roped in Eddy Dupuy, Junior Team LMS Suzuki’s back-up rider, to partner Luca Scassa and Michael Mazzina.
Following a good first stint, the team were in 17th position with Luca Scassa in the saddle 30 laps in, but a little over one hour into the race, the Suzuki #44 returned to the pit box with brake problems. Despite very quick work by the mechanics, the 8-minute stop in the pit box caused No Limits Motor Team to plummet down the order to 50th place.
But Luca Scassa, Michael Mazzina and Eddy Dupuy staged a fantastic comeback, pushing hard for more than 22 hours to take the chequered flag in 12th position and claim 3rd place in the Superstock class.
No Limits Motor Team cut its teeth racing the Endurance World Championship in 2003. A full-season FIM EWC entry since 2016-2017, No Limits Motor Team finished 4th in the FIM Superstock World Cup last season.
The Anthony Delhalle EWC Spirit Trophy is awarded to a rider or team who does something remarkable during the race: climbing back up the ranks, repairing a bike, helping a competitor, or accomplishing a collective or individual feat. The honorary award, decided by a jury and given out after every race in the FIM EWC championship, is intended to keep alive the sporting spirit and character of Anthony Delhalle, a great rider whose life was tragically cut short in March 2017.
