The official tests don’t start until tomorrow (Friday), but riders are already setting a cracking pace at the 2018 Suzuka 8 Hours. Yamaha Factory Racing Team and Kawasaki Team Green have already locked horns. The two teams were neck and neck at the supplementary tests organized for the benefit of all teams competing in the 41st Suzuka 8 Hours. With a 2:07.213 lap for the Yamaha #21 and a 2:07.227 for the Kawasaki #11, the two factory squads dominated today’s test sessions.

Team HRC set the third-fastest time, a 2:08.155, ahead of two other Honda squads, Musashi RT Harc-Pro Honda (2:08.379) and Teluru.MotoUp RT (2:08.515) and Yoshimura Suzuki Motul Racing (2:08.559). With such slim gaps between the best times posted by these teams, the race is likely to be very closely fought.

F.C.C. TSR Honda France, the current FIM EWC standings topper, finished the tests in 7th place with a 2:09.115 lap. As for the other leading full-season teams, YART Yamaha came in 9th (2:09.152) while GMT94 Yamaha was in 15th place (2:10.181).

Following a free practice session at Suzuka tomorrow morning, both qualifying sessions will be held later in the day, ahead of the Top 10 Trial – the superpole for the 10 best teams in qualifying – on Saturday.
