Another MotoGP rider has joined the Endurance ranks. Xavier Siméon is to ride for Yamaha Viltaïs Pierret Experiences for the remainder of the 2018-2019 season. The Belgian rider will partner with Florian Alt for the ambitious French team, who have moved up into the premier EWC class this season.
Xavier Siméon’s arrival to the Yamaha Viltaïs Pierret Experiences team has been officially announced at the Brussels Motor Show, the Belgian capital’s just-opened car and motorcycle show.
Xavier Siméon is making a full-time entry into the FIM EWC championship at the age of 29. The Belgian racer, who won the Superstock 1000 World Cup in 2009, was a Moto2 rider from 2010 to 2017 before joining MotoGP in 2018. He also made a fleeting foray into the EWC as back-up rider for Suzuki Endurance Racing Team at the 24 Heures Motos in 2008.
Xavier Siméon will play a decisive role alongside Florian Alt, another road racing champion who has adapted very quickly to the challenges of Endurance.
Yamaha Viltaïs Pierret Experiences have major ambitions for their first season in Formula EWC and have said they will make further announcements about their 2019 line-up in the coming weeks.
The French team, who are getting extended support from Yamaha Motor Europe, won the 2016-2017 FIM Superstock World Cup.
