Thomas Tuchel’s Bundesliga reign as coach of Borussia Dortmund got off to an emphatic start as his side thrashed a lacklustre Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0.
Marco Reus got things off and running with an early thunderbolt after being played in by Shinji Kagawa before further well-worked goals from Pierre Aubameyangand and a Henrikh Mkhitaryan brace completed the rout.
In truth, it could have been more with Kagawa and Reus missing excellent chances but the result leaves Dortmund second in the Bundesliga table to big rivals Bayern Munich, who beat Hamburg 5-0 on Friday.

7’ – GOAL RULED OUT: Mkhitaryan has the ball in the back of the net after a lovely through ball from Kagawa but the flag has gone up. Replays suggest it was a poor decision.
15’ – GOAL! Dortmund 1-0 Monchengladbach: Hummels passes to Kagawa, who lays the ball off to Reus and he thunders an unstoppable shot past Sommer.
21’ – GOAL! Dortmund 2-0 Monchengladbach: Mkhitaryan gets his Bundesliga tally off and running as he heads home Schmelzer’s cross.
26’ – CHANCE REUS: He closes in on goal but this time fires over the bar. Should have scored his second.
33’ – GOAL! Dortmund 3-0 Monchengladbach: great advantage played by the referee as Gundogan feeds Aubameyang after a foul on Schmelzer. He bares down on goal and unselfishly squares it to Mkhitaryan, who simply can’t miss.
50’ – GOAL! Dortmund 4-0 Monchengladbach: Another mistake from the Monchengladbach defence. A simple ball over the top by Kagawa finds Reus and he squares it for Mkhitaryan, who notches his second!
65’ – CHANCE KAGAWA: A lovely one-two with Aubameyang and he really should put it into the bottom corner instead of sliding it wide.
That was Marco Reus' first Bundesliga goal since the derby win over Schalke in February.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Has now scored 5 goals in his last 7 Bundesliga apps for Borussia Dortmund
Dortmund's 4-0 win is 1 goal shy of their biggest win against Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga: 5-0 on 29 September 2012.
Dortmund have won 6 of their last 8 opening matches of a BL season, losing the other two. Both defeats came against Bayer Leverkusen (both 2-0), including last season.
