Football news - Stuttgart captain Christian Gentner's father dies in stadium after Bundesliga game

Stuttgart have confirmed that the father of captain Christian Gentner died at their stadium after the final whistle of their Bundesliga match against Hertha Berlin.

Stuttgart beat Hertha 2-1 with Gentner having a hand in the second goal – but his father, Herbert, passed away at the Mercedes-Benz Arena soon after.

"VfB Stuttgart mourns the passing of the father of team captain Christian Gentner, Herbert Gentner, who died at the stadium following VfB's home game against Hertha Berlin," the statement read.
